I always find biography pieces difficult as they only tell one story and that story inevitably is a misrepresentation.
By definition a story has to exclude more ideas and facts than it includes.
I could say, I am a creative person, a writer, an illustrator, a public speaker and occasional attender of glamorous events, and also currently the Children’s Laureate.
Or I could say, I am someone who is to be regularly seen emptying her handbag onto the pavement desperately looking for a pencil, a person who slightly dreads parties, and a person who wonders why anyone would want to hear what she has to say.
I’m a procrastinator, often found cleaning a sink when I should be filling out a form or working on a talk.
I am a committed daydreamer and for many years I have been the owner of an imaginary dog.
I’m obsessed with organizing and tidying but spend a remarkable number of hours looking for things. Particularly keys.
I am all of these things and a lot more, but also things I don’t yet know
or have not yet become.
I have long wanted to make a film, play the guitar or perhaps the piano,
take singing lessons, take up karate, learn to crochet, make the perfect French omelette, know how to fix a car, speak Italian, and whistle through
my fingers.
This is the purpose of this website: about not defining yourself and so limiting your creativity. It is about allowing yourself space to be more to discover more to expand.
